The film Kshetram was a film supposed to be along the lines of Arundathi, Chandramukhi etc. The two films were a sort of trendsetters and set the cash registers ringing at the box office. Let us see if the new film is along the same lines or not.
Story:The story is about the Kshetram Deva Konda. The presiding deity is Lord Narasimha Swamy. The deities are taken away and keep atop a hill after some trouble. Soon there is a lot of calamity in the surrounding villages. The villagers want the deities to be installed back in the temple. This can be done only by the descendants of Rayalu family. Veera Narasimha Rayulu (Jagapathi Babu) sets out to do the job. However his evil uncle Kota Srinivasa Rao and his son Aditya Menon do no want this to happen. They set their eyes on grabbing the property and cash belonging to the temple controlled by a trust.
So Kota and his son hatch a conspiracy and succeed in killing Veera Narasimha Rayulu before he can bring back the idols from the hilltop. They also kill his wife Naga Penchalamma. Before dying Naga Penchalamma takes a vow that she will install the statues as per the wish of her late husband.
Naga Penchalamma is now reborn as Sohini. She is in love with Chakri (Kick Shyam). She marries him and sets fut in her in-laws house. Her father- in-law in none other than Aditya Menon, th evil man who plotted the killing of Veer Narasimha Rayulu and Naga Penchalamma. At this time the soul of Naga Penchalamma enters the body of Sohini. She first kills Chakri’s father and later goes on to fulfill her vow of installing the idols of lord Narasimha Swamy in he temple in Deva Konda.
Performance: Jagapathi Babu does a good job. For him this is a tailor made role as he has essayed this kind of roles several times before. Priyamani is good in her dual role. She impresses with her acting skills. Kick Shyam is good. Kota is okay. Taniekalla Bharani is effective. Aditya Menon films the bill as a evil man perfectly. The rest are okay.
Positives: Jagapathi Babu,Priyamani,Kick Shyam
Negatives:- Wafer thin and oft repeated storyline, Screenplay, Music,Direction, Lack of strong motional scenes,Absolutely no comedy (Brahmanandam’s brief appearance falls flat).
Analysis:Kshetram is a film made with good intentions. However the director fails to transform the story on to the screen in a effective and convincing way. The film touches a sensitive subject but the director fails to build up the right tempo and feel that is so important for these kind of films. The end result is a poorly made film.
Verdict:Kshetram is a effort gone waste. The film is very boring and has very little to offer for any kind of audiences. As such the film has absolutely no chance of success at the box office. Forget it!

A morose tale, the story begins with Chakri (shyam) who is in love with the Hindi girl Sohini (priyamani) but their elders agree for it and they get married. Chakri's father (aditya) is from a aristocratic family and he takes Chakri-Sohini to pay respects to the grave of his elder brother Narasimha Rayalu (jagapathi babu) and Naga Penchalamma (priyamani). The story takes a turn when Penchalamma's spirit rises and enters Sohini. The spirit then kills Chakri's father and this leads Chakri to approach a guru. It is here that the flashback opens and roots to how Narasimha Rayalu and Penchalamma are determined to set up the idol of Narasimha Swamy in a temple. What happens after that forms the rest of the story. Readmore

Kshetram is an incredibly lousy film. Jagapathi Babu comes later on and lends certain amount of dignity to his role but a bad screenplay and weak, tame dialogues mar the film's prospects. Shaam of 'Kick' fame and Priyamani in the opening scenes are a pain to watch.
The obese heroine wears gawdy costumes in Malaysia, looks ultra modern but her behaviour is century old. To make matters worse, as her adipose tissue keeps jutting out of her clothes, her partner also jumps into shorts in the duets. She speaks Hindi, is coy and demure and her entire family overreacts at every needless situation and dialogue..like raising eyebrows, bringing tears into the eyes and getting heavily dramatic.
